October 1, 2009 Chief Justice delivers Keynote at 20th Anniversary Conference

Chief Justice Thomas Moyer delivered the Keynote Address to the 2009 OAM Fall Conference at the Ramada Plaza Hotel & Conference Center on Wednesday September 30th - Friday, October 2nd. October 1, 2009 Romans, Derryberry, Winters and Palos recieve 2009 Judicial Awards

At the 2009 Fall Conference Banquet, the OAM presented its prestigious Judicial Awards to former Magistrates and now Judges Kathleen Romans of the Butler County Juvenile Court, Glen Derryberry of the Allen County Juvenile Court, Bruce Winters of the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court and Diane Palos of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court.

 

 


October 1, 2009 Sendry, Moffett & Parish awarded Life Memberships

Retired Magistrates Bev Moffett, Doug Sendry and Dennis Parish (not in attendance) were awarded Life Memberships at the 2009 Fall Conference Banquet. Moffett was the Chief Magistrate of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court and was a Charter Member of the Association. She served on the First Board of Trustees and was the Assocation's President in 1995. Sendry was a Magistrate with the Portage County Domestic Relations Court who served many years as Ethics and Education Chair and then as President from 2001-2002. Parish, who was unable to be at the Fall Conference was a Magistrate of both the Wood County and Lucas County Juvenile Courts, serving the latter as Senior Magistrate. He also was a Charter Member of the Association and served as President iin 1996. He also served several years as the OAM Representative to the Ohio Judicial College Board of Trustees and was appointed by Former Governor Taft to the Second District Court of Appeals. He is perhaps best known for his development of the CLE Course, "The Law and Cinema", one of the most popular courses ever developed.

 


October 1, 2009 Kate Graham receives 2009 Education Award

Magistrate Kathleen Graham of the Franklin County Municipal Court was the recipient of the 2009 OAM Education Award. Kate was one of the founding and Charter Members of the OAM, served 5 terms as Treasurer, was the Association's 3rd President, was a Fall Conference Chair and is a frequent presenter for the Judicial College.

 


August 22, 2009 Judicial Conference passes historic resolution recognizing and supporting OAM

Retired Judge Mark Schweikert, Director of the Ohio Judicial Conference, was pleased to inform the OAM that the Conference Executive Committee recently passed an historic resolution recognizing and supporting the OAM. The Resolution reads as follows:

The Ohio Judicial Conference recognizes the Ohio Association of Magisgtrates (OAM) as a non-member association, whose mission is to assist magistrates, through education and professional development, to better serve their courts and the judicial system. The Executive Committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference encourages judges to sipport magistrate membership in the OAM and attendance at OAM Spring and Fall Conferences.

The Executive Committee also encourages Co-Chairs of Ohio Judicial Conference Stancing Committees to appoint magistrates to serve on the Standing Committees as authorized by Article V of the Ohio Judicial Conference Constitution.


 

 

 

 

July 1, 2009 Greg Clifford named to Judicial Conference Committee

The OAM is pleased to announce that Magistrate Greg Clifford of the Cleveland Municipal Court has been named to the Ohio Judicial Conference Criminal Law & Procedure Committee.

 


May 28, 2009 Jonathan Starn confirmed Findlay Municipal Court winner in recount

Congratulations to Magistrate Jonathan Starn who was declared the winner in a recount of the Republican Primary for the Findlay Municipal Court. Because no Democratic or Independent candidate filed for the seat, Starn will not face an opponent in November's General Election for a term that begins January 2, 2010.

 


April 6, 2009 Diane Palos sworn in as Judge

The OAM is very proud to report that Magistrate Diane Palos, appointed last month by Governor Ted Strickland to replace Anthony Russo as Judge of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court, has taken the bench. Judge Palos was one of the most respected Magistrates in the State of Ohio. She served and chaired numerous Committees and Task Forces of the Ohio Supreme Court and served as the OAM representative on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Judicial College. Diane also served several terms on the OAM Board and has been a presenter at countless Spring and Fall Conferences as well as many Judicial College Courses. For these efforts, she was presented the Association's 2002 Education Award . In the view of OAM President David Jump, Governor Strickland could not have made a better appointment. March 15, 2009 Odella Lampkin-Crafter named to Supreme Court Advisory Committee

In December 2008, Odella Lampkin-Crafter, Franklin County Domestic and Juvenille Court Magistrate, was appointed by Chief Justice Moyer for a 3-year term to the Ohio Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Children, Families, and the Courts. Odella has been a Magistrate for approximately 16 years.

Magistrate Matt Reed of the Butler County Common Pleas Court and Magistrate Ken Roll of the Lake County Common Pleas Court are the co-chairs of the 2009 Spring Conference which will be taking place Wednesday, April 22-24, 2009 at the Embassy Suites-Blue Ash in Cincinnati. February 9, 2009 Bruce Winters takes Oath of Office

The OAM is pleased to report that OAM Member, Magistrate Bruce Winters, was sworn in as Judge of the Ottowa County Common Pleas Court succeeding retiring Judge Paul Moon. Judge Winters had the rare fortune of being unopposed in both the Primary and General Election. Bruce was recognized for his success at the 2008 Spring Conference. February 6, 2009 Supreme Court Leaders meet with OAM Board

At its recent Mid-Winter Meetings, the OAM Board received presentations about the latest developments at the Ohio Supreme Court from Adminstrative Director, Steve Hollon, and Director of Judicial and Court Services, Doug Stephens. Both expressed great appreciation for the contributions of Magistrates to the many Commissions, Committees and Task Forces of the Court.

February 6, 2009 Judicial College expands services to OAM

At its recent Mid-Winter Meetings, Judicial College Director, Milt Nuzum, and several members of his staff were pleased to report that the College is expanding its services to the Association to not only include the printing of its Spring and Conference Programs, but to also assist the OAM in negotiating future conference sites and upgrading of the OAM Newsletter. The Board expressed great appreciation for the assistance of the College Staff.

 



February 6, 2009 OAM adopts Mission Statement

At its recent Mid-Winter Meetings, the OAM Board adopted a Mission Statment for the Assoociation. The statement reads as follows: "The mission of the Ohio Association of Magistrates is to assist Magistrates through education and professional development to serve the justice system with integrity. "

November 4, 2008 Judge Kathleen Romans retains Butler County Juvenile Seat

The OAM is proud to report that former Magistrate Kathleen Romans has retained her position as Judge of the Butler County Juvenile Court, a position to which she was appointed by Governor Ted Strickland back in September following the death of Judge Deavid Niehaus. Judge Romans, a Democrat and former long term Magistrate, defeated Attorney Tim Evans by a 53 to 47 percent margin. In commenting on her victory, Judge Romans stated "What I look forward to is continuing the traditions established by Judge David Diehaus. I worked for his office for 25 years and I'm very proud to be part of it." Judge Romans attended the Association's recent Fall Conference and expressed great appreciation for all our efforts.

 


Novemer 4, 2008 Judge Glen Derryberry retains Allen County Juvenile & Probate Seat.

The OAM is proud to report that former Magistrate Glenn Derryberry has retained his position as Judge of the Allen County Juvenile and Probate Court, a position to which he was appointed last year to replace retiring Judge David Kinworthy. Judge Derryberry, a Democrat, defeated Magistrate Deb Drexler by a 59% to 41% margin. In commenting on his victory, Judge Derryberry stated "I just think that the amount of support I received, I'm gratified by that. He also said, " I had great support from all accross the political spectrum. I emphasized the experience in dealing with juvenile and probate court matters and that was recognized by the voters." Judge Derryberry served nearly 19 years as a Magistrate under Judge Kinworthy and was an active member of the OAM.

September 24, 2008 Bamburowski, Harvey & Melvin honored as Life Members

At the 2008 Fall Conference Banquet, the OAM bestowed Life Memberships upon Tom Bamburowski (Wood County DR), Karen Harvey (Athens County DR) and Bill Melvin (Hamilton Juvenile) for their distinguished service to the OAM. Tom is a Past-President, Karen is a prior Education Award Winner and Bill has played a central role in our Newsletter and the development of our Website. They join Barbara Norton and Mike Bernstein as the Association's only other Life Members. We wish them well in their retirements.

September 24, 2008 Milt Nuzum receives 2008 Education Award

At the 2008 Fall Conference Banquet, the 2008 Education Award was presented to Judicial College Director, Milt Nuzum. In presenting the Award, OAM President David Jump commented that, under Milt's tenure, relations between the College and the OAM have never been stronger and the Award was an expression of the Association's great appreciation. Milt has continued to insure that all Spring and Fall Conference C.L.E. qualifies for Judicial College Credit and he has extended the Supreme Court's Judicial and Court Services to the printing and mailing of OAM Programs.

September 24 , 2008 Beth Root receives 2008 Judicial Award

Judge Beth Root of the Fairborn Municipal Court was one of three recipients of the Association's 2008 Judicial Award, an honor extended to former Magistrates who have gone on to success on the Bench and have been greatly supportive of Magistrates and our Association. Other 2008 winners who were unable to attend were Judge Carol Dezso of the Summit County Domestic Relations Court and Judge Denise McColley of the Henry County Family Court.

September 24 , 2008 Chief Justice Moyer keynotes 2008 Fall Conference

The OAM was once again honored to have the Keynote Address of the 2008 Fall Conference delivered by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer of the Ohio Supreme Court. He delivered an enlightening message on the beauty of the law. Justice Moyer has been a great friend of the Association and has been our Keynote Speaker for nearly a decade. The Association also received an update on developments at the Court from Administrative Director Steve Hollon, another great friend and strong supporter of our Association. The Conference was a great success with 203 Magistrates in attendance and a near record 154 members attending the Wednesday Judicial College Course.

Magistrate Kathleen Romans appointed Judge

The OAM is proud to report that Governor Ted Strickland has appointed Magistrate Kathleen Romans as Judge of the Butler County Juvenile Court. Judge Romans replaced Judge David Niehaus who died on August 1. Judge Romans was appointed as a Magistrate of his court in 2003, prior to which she was a private attorney in the general practice of law. Judge Romans was a member of our association and we are very proud of her accomplishments. We wish her well in hr upcoming election.

July 22, 2008 Charles Lawrie named to Supreme Court Commission

The OAM is pleased to report that Chief Justice Moyer has appointed Magistrate Charles Lawrie of the Medina Municipal Court to the new Supreme Court Commission on Technology and the Courts. Magistrate Lawrie is a Past President of the Association, was the developer of the first OAM Website and is one of our Association's most knowledgable members in this area. Chuck joins the following other distinguished OAM Members currently serving on Supreme Court Commissions, Advisory Committees and Task Forces: Bill Rickrich (Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure), Diane Palos (Advisory Committee on Children, Family and the Courts), Nancy McMillen (Commission on the Rules of Superintendence), Ken Roll (Advisory Committee on Court Security and Emergency Preparedness), Michael Lawson (Advisory Committee on the Mentally Ill and the Courts, Jeff Ginsburg (Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence) and Kathleen Graham (Task Force on the Code of Judicial Conduct).

May 30, 2008 Judge Belinky's Magistrates Join OAM

The OAM is proud to welcome as new members all of four Magistrates of the Mahoning County Probate Court which include: Richard Burgess, Gary Philibin, Vincent Wloch and Richard Macucha. Judge Mark Belinky, appointed to his position in January by Governor Ted Strickland and who successfully defended his seat in the March primary against two strong opponents, is a strong supporter of Magistrates and an innovative judge who has won wide praise for his open door policy. With the addition of the Probate Magistrates, Seventh District Representative Mark Huberman is pleased to report that all of the Magistrates of the his District are now members of the OAM.

May 15, 2008 OAM Spring Conference a Success at Deer Creek

The OAM celebrated another successful Spring Conference on May 14, 15 and 16, 2008 at the Deer Creek State Park and Conference Center. One of the highlights of the sessions was the presentation by Federal District Judge Greg Frost of the Southern District of Ohio in the area of Civil Procedure. More highlights will appear in the next issue of the OAM Newsletter.



April 1, 2008 OAM Adopts new Image and Tagline

The Board of Trustees is proud to announce that, effective April 1, 2008, our image has been updated to not only create a more dynamic look for the Association name but to also include the new tagline “The Voice of Ohio Magistrates”, a phrase that more properly and powerfully expresses the strong leadership role the OAM has played in promoting the interests of Magistrates during our 19 year history. With Association membership now approaching 500, we believe this is the appropriate time to trumpet our success.

March 30, 2008 Karen Harvey honored by OAM Board for Retirement

March 30, 2008 marked the retirement of Magistrate Karen Harvey of the Athens County Domestic Relations Court. For her great contributions to the OAM, the Board of Trustees at its February 8, 2008 Board Meeting voted to extend Karen an Honorary Life Membership in the Association, a recognition she will formally receive at the 2008 Fall Conference in September. Karen's replacement as Fourth District Representative is Linda Warner, of the Galia County Common Pleas Court.

March 5, 2008 Bill Melvin honored by OAM Board for Retirement

March 5, 2008 marked the retirement of Magistrate Bill Melvin of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court. Bill started with the Court on April 9, 1984 and remained there for nearly 24 years. Bill was a dedicated member and officer of our Board of Trustees who regularly provided Newsletter reports of our Spring and Fall Conferences and was one of the co-developers of our updated Website. Bill is undoubtedly the most traveled Magistrate in the world, having just returned from a trip to Dubai. For his great contributions to the OAM, the Board of Trustees at its February 8, 2008 Board Meeting voted to extend Bill an Honorary Life Membership in the Association, a recognition he will formally receive at the 2008 Fall Conference in September. Bill’s replacement as First District Representative is Joe Schnieders, a veteran Magistrate of the Hamilton County Domestic Relations Court Magistrate. March 4, 2008 George Reynolds and other Magistrates win Primary Victories

Several Magistrates found success during the March 4, 2008 Primary. Magistrate George Reynolds of the Greene County Common Pleas Court, and a member of the OAM Board, easily won the Republican Primary nomination for a seat on the 2nd District Court of Appeals amassing 71% of the vote. He will face a Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge in November. On the Democrat side, Judge Glen Derryberry of the Allen County Probate/Juvenile Court soundly defeated his primary opponent and will face DR Magistrate Deb Drexler in the Fall. Judge Derryberry, a former Chief Magistrate of that Court was appointed to the position last November by Governor Strickland. Also enjoying success on the Democrat side was former Lake County DR Magistrate, Patrice Denman, who topped a field of four for the Juvenile Judgeship being vacated by Retiring Judge William Weaver. She will face Karen Lawson, a former Public Defender/Special Prosecutor in the FAll. We regret to report, however, that Chief Magistrate Mary McElwee of the Clinton County Common Pleas Court, and also a member of the OAM Board, failed in her bid to be the Republican Nominee for a seat on the 12th District Court of Appeals.

February 7, 2008 Judicial College offers additional services to OAM

During the recently concluded two day OAM Think Tank meetings at the Ramada Plaza, Milt Nuzum, the Director of the Ohio Judicial College offered to expand the services of the College to the OAM in such important areas as printing, mailing and conference site location and contracting. The OAM has enjoyed a strong relationship with the College over the years and works closely with its staff to insure that all education offered at our Spring and Fall Conferences qualify for Judicial College Credit. December 15, 2007 Donna Mitchell appointed to OJC Committee

The OAM is pleased to announce that the Juvenile Law and Procedure Committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference has named Donna Mitchell, Chief Magisrate/Legal Counsel of the Lucas County Juvenile Court,as its second Magistrate member. Many thanks to Judges Jim James, Margaret Clark and others for expanding our participation. Donna has been with her Court for 19 years, the last 16 as Chief Magistrate. She currently is responsible for the Court's Specialty Docket.

December 8, 2007 Tom Bamburowski honored at retirement

As the curtain came down on 2007, Magistrate Tom Bamburowski retired from the Bowling Green Domestic Relations Court. Tom was a distinguished member of the OAM Board of Trustees dating back to the early 1990’s and served the OAM on numerous levels including President, 2nd Vice-President, Newsletter Editor, and at various times, Chairman of the By-Laws, Nominating and Insurance Committees. For his extraordinary contributions, the OAM Board of Trustees voted to name Tom only the third Honorary Life Member of the OAM. He will be formally honored at the 2008 OAM Fall Conference. November 16 , 2007 David Jump leads new OAM Executive Committee

At its November Meeting at the Ohio Judicial Center, the OAM Board elected Magistrate David Jump of the Franklin County Municipal Court to serve as the Association's President for the year ahead. He succeeds Jonathan Starn who completed his one year term. David has served as the Association's First Vice-President for the past four (4) years. Joining David on the Executive Committee are Greg Clifford of the Cleveland Municipal Court as First Vice-President, William Byrne of the Lucas County Domestic Relations Court as Second Vice-President, Kimberly Stump of the Greene County Domestic Relations Court as Treasurer and Kenneth Roll of the Lake County Common Pleas Court as Secretary. The Board also appointed Pam Heringhaus of the Wood County Domestic Relations Court to replace retiring Magistrate, and former OAM President, Tom Bamburowski. October 22, 2007 OAM President to Participate in Judicial Branch Leadership Conference

OAM President Jonathan Starn is pleased to report that he recently receive an invitation from the Chief Justice to join the Presidents of the six Judicial Associations, the Officers of the Judicial Conference, the Deans of Ohio's nine Law Schools and heads of the various Bar Associations to attend the first of its kind meeting on Judicial Branch Leadership scheduled for December 18, 2007 at the Ohio Judicial Center. As noted in the letter of invitation, these leaders have never all met together to talk about such important areas of mutual concern as security, continuing education, ethics, technology, rule making and legislative initiatives. In his letter, the Chief Justice states that "I hope this meeting is the beginning of an ongoing effort to coordinate our collective activities, find common solutions, and provide strategic direction to the judicial branch of Ohio government. President Starn considers it another major milestone for the OAM to be given a presence and voice at such an important gathering.

October 3 , 2007 Justice Stratton returns as Keynote Speaker at 2007 OAM Fall Conference

Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton delivered the Keynote Address to the 2007 Fall Conference held at the Midwest Hotel and Conference Center in Columbus. Justice Stratton shared with the over 200 Magistrates in attendance her latest efforts to promote Mental Health Courts in Ohio as well as other important developments at the Court. Other featured speakers at the Conference were Rick Dove, the newly appointed Assistant Administrative Director of the Court and Attorney General Marc Dann.

October 3 , 2007 O'Connell, O'Malley & Bernat receive 2007 OAM Judicial Awards

At the 2007 Fall Conference, the OAM Judicial Awards were presented to Tim O'Connell, former OAM Board Member and current Judge of the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, Richard Bernat, also a former OAM Board Member and current Judge of the Hamilton County Municipal Court, alonge with Tom O'Malley former Magistrate and current Judge of the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court. August 27, 2007 Christy Tull elected Vice-President of National Association of State Judicial Educators

Christy Tull, the Ohio Supreme Court's Judicial College Education Manager, and the winner of the 2003 OAM Education Award, has been elected Vice-President of the National Association of State Judicial Educators, a national organization dedicted to improving the education of state court judges, magistrates and court personnel. August 24, 2007 Kathleen Graham named to new Task Force on the Code of Judicial Conduct
August 24, 2007 Magistrate Kathleen Graham of the Franklin County Municipal Court has been named by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer to serve on the new Task Force on the Code of Judicial Conduct. Magistrate Graham is a Past President of the OAM and previously served two terms of the Supreme Court's Rules Advisory Committee, now called the Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure.

June 8, 2007 Magistrates Starn and Huberman named to OJC Magistrates Committee.

In another significant milestone for the OAM, the Magistrates Committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference voted to make the OAM President and Immediate Past President as permanent members of this pivotal committee. The appointments were announced by Committee Co-Chairs, Judge Steve Hurley of the Greene County Domestic Relations Court (an OAM Past-President) and Judge Carol Dezso of the Summit County Domestic Relations Court. Special thanks not only to the Co-Chairs for their support of this initiative by OAM President Starn, but also to Judges Dennis Greaney, Eva Kessler, Matt McFarland and Tim O'Connell all of whom are proud alumns of the OAM Board and current members of the OJC Committee. The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for September 6, 2007 in Columbus.

April 30, 2007 Michael McPhillips serving as Chief of Employment Law Section of Attorney General's Office.

Former Franklin County Common Pleas Magistrate Michael McPhillips was named earlier this year by new Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann to serve as Chief of the Employment Section of his office. Marc Dann & Nadine Ballard
April 30 , 2007 Nadine Ballard serving as Chief of Consumer Protection Section of Attorney General's Office.

Former Montgomery County Common Pleas Magistrate Nadine Ballard was named earlier this year by new Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann to serve as Chief of the Consumer Protection Section of his office. In making the appointment, Dann praised Nadine as being "one of the leading consumer protction advocates in Ohio". Nadine served 15 years as a Magistrate and represented the Association as a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference Civil Law Committtee. Her appointment was effective February 5, 2007. Congratulations Nadine!

April 28, 2007 Tammy Richardson appointed to Judicial Conference Committee
OAM Board Member Tammy Richardson of the Summit County Probate Court was recently appointed to serve as a Magistrate Representative on the Ohio Judicial Conference Juvenile Law and Procedure Committee. The OAM wishes to thank Committee Co-Chairs Judge Jim James of Stark County and Margaret Clark of Brown County. With Tammy's appointment, the OAM now enjoys formal representation on three major OJC Committees, the other two being Domestic Relations Law and Procedure and Civil Law and Procdure.

November 17 , 2006 Magistrate Jonathan Starn elected new OAM President!

At the November meeting of the OAM Board of Trustees, Magistrate Jonathan Starn of the Hancock County Common Pleas Court was elected President of the OAM for the upcoming year. Jonathan recently served as the Association's 2nd Vice-President and continues to serve as the District 3 Representative. He is a 1993 Graduate of Capital University Law School and is a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference Practice and Procedure Committee. Jonathan succeeds Magistrate Mark Huberman who just completed his third term as President.


October 20 , 2006 Magistrate Nancy McMillan reappointed to Commision on the Rules of Superintendence

Magistrate Nancy McMillen of the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court was recently reappointed by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer to serve a full three year term on the new Commission on the Rules of Superintendence for Ohio Courts which is being chaired by Justice Judith Lanzinger. Late last year she was appointed to a one year term by Chief Justice Moyer. Nancy is a member of our Board of Trustees and serves as 8th District Representative.


October 18, 2006 Magistrate Lora Lynne Stalnaker of the Lake County Probate Court appointed OAM Probate Practice Area Chair

Magistrate Lora Lynne Stalnaker of the Lake County Probate Court was recently appointed by the OAM Board of Trustees to replace Deb Marik of the Trumbull County Probate Court who chose not to seek re-election after two terms as Chair. Many thanks to Deb for her great service and a hearty welcome to Lora!

Licking County Domestic Relations Court Magistrate Bill Rickrich was the recipient of the Association's 2006 Education Award. Bill received the award in recognition of his years of service to the Association as a Board Member, Education Chair, CLE Presenter and OAM representative to the Supreme Court Committee on the Rules of Practice and Procedure. At the recent Fall Conference of the Ohio Association of Magistrates, the Association honored prior Officers and Trustees of the OAM who have gone on to success on the bench. September 28, 2006 Justice Stratton keynotes 2006 Fall Conference

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton is welcomed by President Mark Huberman as the Keynote Speaker for the OAM Fall Conference at the Midwest Hotel and Conference Center. Justice Stratton updated the Association on her groundbreaking work on behalf of Mental Health Courts. Justice Stratton has been a great friend of the Association.

 


August 25 , 2006 Magistrate Coleen Dailey named Secretary of the OSBA Family Law Committee

Magistrate Coleen Hall Dailey of the Columbiana County Domestic Relations Court recently became the Secretary of the OSBA Family Law Committee. We believe that this is the first time a Magistrate or Judge has ever been elected to this position. Coleen is also a member of the Associations' Board of Trustees. Congratulations Coleen!


April 11, 2006 McFarland serves as visiting Judge on Ohio Supreme Court

Former OAM Board Member Matt McFarland now a Judge of the 4th District Court of Appeals had the privilege of serviing as a visiting Judge on the Ohio Supreme Court in a Lucas County Insurance case that recently came before the high court. Judge McFarland was selected by Chief Justice Moyer in place of Justice Judith Lanzinger who recused herself. He reports being treated respectfully and graciously by his fellow Justices and was honored by the opportunity. Congratulations Matt!


April 3, 2006 Mahoning County Common Pleas Court adds Magistrates

The General Divsion of the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court recently added three new Magistrates, bringing the ratio of Judges to Magistrates to one to one. The new Magistrates (standing from right to left) include Steven D. Shandor (Hon. Maureen Cronin), Dominic J. DeLaruentis, Jr. (Hon. John Durkin), Eugene J. Fehr (Hon. James Evans), Timothy G. Welsh (Hon. R. Scott Krichbaum) and Dennis J. Sarisky (Hon. Maureen Sweeney. The Court has paid for the OAM Membership for all of their Magistrates, most of whom are planning to attend the Fall Conference.


Stark County Judges enroll their Magistrates in OAM
The Association is excited to report that following a recent luncheon meeting with OAM President Mark Huberman and Chief Magistrate Alan Carter of the Summit County Domestic Relations Court, Judge David E, Stucki of the Stark County Family Court has informed us that he and fellow Judges Jim D. James and Michael L. Howard have approved the membership of all seven of their Court's Full Time Magistrates to become members of the Association. We are pleased to welcome Chief Magistrate Sally Efremoff and fellow Magistrates Ali Frantz, John E. Myers, David Nist, Rosemarie Hall, Priscilla J. Cunningham, and Patricia Menicas.
